Our Building

The Design Inspiration

Designed by Konzepte Melbourne, a leading architectural firm, they have drawn inspirations from several key symbols

Waves symbolise a crucial element of the journey to freedom. A symbol of great uncertainty, turmoil, pain, and heaviness – it stands for the very element which has led to hope, carrying people to a new land.

The warm hues of the Australian Red Earth set the tone for the Vietnamese Museum of Australia as it commemorates the Land of Australia as the destination of freedom – A land of hope.

Bamboo plays an important part of the culture of Vietnam. It serves as a key construction material in Vietnamese Architecture, and symbolises the Vietnamese hometown and Vietnamese soul of hardworking, adaptable, straightforward and optimism.

Expressed as a golden crown atop the Museum, the Egg Sac form represents a crucial element of the journey – a strong cultural reference to a new beginning, the inclusive gathering of people from the same origin, and a spirit of unity.

The Museum Construction

Ground Floor: Lobby, social services, resource centre and cafe

2nd Floor: Multi-purpose events space, the “Multicultural Hall”

3rd Floor: Permanent and temporary exhibition space, an interim Shrine location

A Memorial Garden to commemorate those who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending freedom for South Vietnam

Big or small, a gift to the Museum will contribute to creating a positive impact for our community and multiculturalism in Australia.

Funding The Museum

The Vietnamese Museum Australia will be funded through a combination of State and Commonwealth government funding, community donations, grants, corporate donations and sponsorships.

With a proposed site in Sunshine, Victoria, the Vietnamese Museum Australia will be Australia’s first museum dedicated to preserving and telling the incredible stories of Vietnamese refugees, and their settlement in Australia. Construction of the Museum is estimated to cost $18 million which consists of the purchasing of land and the construction of the Museum.

Your generous donation will help us fund this landmark institution that will leave a legacy for future generations. Each donation of $500 or more will be memorialised by having you or your nominee’s name inscribed onto the Dedication Wall in the museum once it’s complete – a symbolic gesture that will live on forever.
